Formatting with Styles
Styles in MadCap Flare contain formatting properties for your content. MadCap Flare keeps these properties separate from content by containing all styles in stylesheets. In other words, these stylesheets, or CSS files, are separate from your topic files. This is vital to single-sourcing because it allows different formatting to be designated to different types of outputs, such as HTML5 and PDF, while still using the same content. The organization of styles into these separate stylesheets allows you to edit the appearance of your project without editing your content. Although it is possible to perform inline editing in MadCap Flare, this guide strongly encourages you to use styles whenever possible because it is a much more efficient method of formatting large quantities of content simultaneously, which the size of MadCap Flare projects often necessitates.
